MIKE Garlick is to become Chairman of Burnley Football Club with immediate effect, following the decision of John Banaszkiewicz to stand down as Co-Chairman.

Mr Garlick, the club’s largest shareholder, assumes sole chairmanship following three years as co-chairman alongside Mr John Banaszkiewicz, who will continue as a director.

The change reflects the new ownership structure and allows London-based Mr Banaszkiewicz to fulfil his wish to devote more time to his young family and diverse business interests.

In a statement, Mr Garlick said: “John and I now own over 75% of the club combined and going forward will continue to work together to move the club forward in a positive and progressive way.

“During the past three years we have achieved a great deal working together and we truly believe that the club is in a very strong position to continue improving in all aspects both on and off the field.

“We will both continue to strive to better our club for the benefit of our fans and our community, along with all connected to our very unique football club.

In an open letter to supporters - the full version of which can be read here shortly - Mr Banaszkiewicz added: “Having worked with Mike closely over several years, I know he will do a fantastic job.

“I am confident that the transition will be a smooth one and from the position of being a director, I will still be able to make a major and positive contribution.

“I have a large and growing international business and a young family in London who I need to devote more time to, as my children are growing up quickly.”

“I am sad to be stepping down but I’m very proud of having helped build a financially stable, professionally-run club which I have supported in times of need.

“I’ve already received several messages of support from fellow board members who are very pleased I’m remaining on the board.”
