SAM Vokes has special memories of his last meeting with Liverpool on Boxing Day, but this time he hopes it will not end in defeat for Burnley.

After the game Sean Dyche described the Clarets’ performance as the best of his Turf Moor reign but Raheem Sterling’s goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 win.

Vokes knows Burnley need a result this time to climb out of relegation trouble, as they bid to follow up recent draws at Chelsea and Manchester City.

“It was a special day,” he said of his last match against Liverpool.

“It was great for me to get on the pitch and it would be nice to do that again on Wednesday.

“It was good performance against Liverpool and one we should have probably picked up points from but we didn’t. We need to go there and try to pick points up.

“We have been written off all season wherever we’ve gone and proved people wrong, so if we can do that again on Wednesday it will be great.”

One member of the Burnley squad has an Anfield winner to his name, with Stephen Ward giving Wolves a famous victory over Liverpool in 2010 at a time when Roy Hodgson was under real pressure as Reds boss.

David Jones was also in the squad that night, although Vokes missed out as he was on loan at Bristol City at the time.
