A new reminder has been issued to motorists that Clitheroe town centre is closed to traffic until the end of July as major refurbishment works get into full swing.

Shops and businesses in Castle Street will be open as usual during the £600,000 highway revamp, with controlled access for deliveries during the day and uncontrolled access in the evening.

Access to Castle Street for pedestrians will be available at all times.

A Ribble Valley Council spokesperson said: "Signage is being placed in Castle Street during the day saying ‘road closed during working hours’ and in the evening ‘road closed – access only’.

"Motorists are asked to adhere to the signage in the interests of the safety of residents, businesses and people working on the scheme.

"Work focusing on improvements to Castlegate, including the creation of a loading bay, started some weeks ago.

"Now work on refurbishing the footway between Castlegate and Nettleton's Jewellers has started in earnest."

The refurbishment scheme is a collaboration between Lancashire County Council and Ribble Valley Borough Council aimed at making Castle Street more accessible and attractive.

It features the widening of pavements, new paving and street furniture, along with some changes to parking.
