EAST Lancashire stars Diana Vickers and Wendi Peters are returning to their industrial northern roots for the world premiere of a new play on the London stage.

They team up together in Hatched ‘n’ Dispatched by Gemma Page and Michael Kirk.

Described as ‘a mucky romp through the morals, memories and music of the 1950s’ it opens tonight at the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park, North London and runs until September 26.

Blackburn’s Coronation Street star Wendi and X-Factor semi-finalist Diana, from Huncoat, have both been tweeting enthusiastically about the play.

The publicity for the show says: “You are invited to party... The Needham family have buried Uncle Arthur and christened Baby Clifford in a double booking at the church.

“As Dorothy-Mavis takes charge of preparations for the after-party, tensions erupt and toxic secrets threaten to destroy her family.

“But she is not a woman to let family love come between her and social respectability – whatever the cost.

“Set in the industrial north of England, this black comedy takes place over one evening in early autumn 1959.”

Wendi Peters, best known for playing Cilla Battersby-Brown in Coronation Street, plays Dorothy, while Diana Vickers, soon to tour as Janet in the Rocky Horror Show, takes the role of Susan Walker.

Former Westholme School pupil Diana, 24, has tweeted an interview with London’s Evening Standard newspaper in which she says she will never turn her back on music but is concentrating on her stage career.

She has recently released a new track called Chains.

Diana said: “I’m an all-round performer but I really want to concentrate on my acting at the moment and give it all my energy .”

Her debut single Once topped the UK music charts in 2010.

Also in the cast of the show is Vicky Binns who played Molly Compton in Coronation Street and Ollie in Emmerdale.
