HUNDREDS of spectators turned out to support one of East Lancashire’s oddest traditions as the sixth annual World Gravy Wrestling Championships were staged.
Around 500 people attended the event at the Rose and Bowl, Stacksteads, yesterday to see wrestlers compete for two minutes in a pool filled with 1,500 litres of gravy.

Donations were also collected for the East Lancashire Hospice,which marshalled the entrance. .
Joel Hicks, who competed under the name ‘Gandalf the Gravy’, won the men’s event to pick up his third title. Nicole Taylor-Lyons, 20, known as ‘Mad Cow’, was crowned the women’s world champion.
