THE death of a woman whose body was found in a Burnley home was not suspicious, police have concluded.

The 49-year-old was pronounced dead by paramedics responding to a call about a collapse in a terraced house in Ford Street.

Inspector Des Barr, of Lancashire Police, said it was believed the woman may have taken an overdose.

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of heroin, but was later released and faces no further action.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called at around 9.10pm on Sunday by the ambulance service to an address on Ford Street, Burnley, following reports that a woman had collapsed.

“Officers attended and a 49-year-old woman was pronoun-ced dead at the scene. Following an investigation it has been deemed that the death is non-suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.”

Residents said they were concerned to hear about the woman’s death.

One neighbour who has lived in a Calico home, below the junction with St Andrew’s Street, since December, said he was shocked to hear about it.

He said: “I had not heard. I did not hear or see anything on Sunday night. It’s really bad.”

Cllr Arif Khan, who represents the Queensgate ward for Labour, said: “First of all, my sympathies and condolences go out to the family of the woman who has passed away.

“I don’t know much about the incident, but it’s sad to hear,” he added.

  • The woman’s death is not related to the death of a five-month-old girl, who was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital from a house in Ford Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, police said.
